Bar Mitzvah

イスラエルにトータル1年ちょい住んでるのに、未だかつて現地の結婚式やバルミツヴァというユダヤの成人式のパーティにお招ばれしたことがなかったが、ついにそのチャンスが一期にめぐってきた。

..

といっても招待されたのではないけど、、

前にちょこっとだけ働いていたsushi barのオーナーが、二日連続で、結婚式とバルミツヴァで寿司カウンター出す（いわゆるケータリング）から手伝ってくれって。ちょっと面白そうやない？

まずはバルミツヴァ。私の住んでる街の近郊にあるキブツ内の大きなセレモニー会場で招待客は600人とな。夕方７時くらいから人がどんどん集まり始め、夕暮れの日差しと周りの木々が美しい屋外スペースには、ハデな装飾とたくさんのフードカウンター、、ここまでですでに日本のかなり豪華レベルの結婚式以上です。

sushiはここでも大人気、でも店で働いた時ほど忙しくなく、抜き足差し足で忍びよってくるネコに警戒しながら適当に仕事はこなし（殺気立った店のキッチンで働くより断然ラク）、パーティーの雰囲気を楽しみました。

そして宴もたけなわ、主役の13才の坊ちゃまが、スポットライトを浴びながらトランペット奏者に先導されてド派手に登場。ステージ上では家族に支えられながら堂々とトーラーを朗読？挨拶し、家族は感動のあまり坊ちゃまを抱きしめ、観客は拍手喝采で大盛り上がり、しまいにゃ花火まであがってしまって。。。

鳥肌＆完全にあっけにとられてる間に、パーティーはさっさと会場を屋内の着席会場に移動し、、、感動のクライマックスと思いきや、そのまま夜な夜な延々と宴はつづくのでした。

そういえば少し前に、このバルミツヴァを主題にした映画を飛行機の中で観ました。男13才、晴れて大人の仲間入り？を祝うユダヤ人のこの習慣、いや習慣はいいんだけど、子供のためにイカレポンチに贅を尽くしたパーティーが、、、きっとソトモノにとっては、もう理解不能、アホ臭さ満載！！

ちなみにこのバルミツヴァ、日本の成人式のように集団でまとめてやっちゃうのではなく、一人一人のバースデイごとが基本なので（あくまで宗教的な儀式でもあるので、イスラエル人全員がやるわけでもなさそうですが）、、極端なハナシ、学校の同級生なんかが毎月毎月誰かしらバルミツヴァやるってケースもあるわけで、、、どうやらごシステムはご祝儀制らしく、出費がものすごくて大変だそうです。（やめればいいのに）

I’ve been living in Israel for about 1 year though, I have never been to a local wedding nor bar mitzvah party. But finally, I got chance to go there, at once.

An owner of a sushi bar where I worked there for a while before asked me to help them serving sushi at the partys 2 days in a row. Sounds interesting!

The first day was bar mitzvah. It was held in a big ceremony hall in a kibbutz environs of the town I live. The number of the guests were more than 600 people, around 7 in the evening, people had started to assemble in the big garden party space with beautiful sunrise, greens and fancy decolations. and there were also many kind of food counter,,,, That’s already too splendid even rather than high class wedding in Japan.

Sushi was very popular there too. But the duty was much easier than working in the sushi bar, just we needed to be careful for cats which was aiming foods. I had plenty of time to enjoy the atomosphia of the party.

The banquet was getting final, and a 13 yaers-old boy, who was the main character of the party, appered fancily with his family, led by trumpeters to the stage. He read Tora and greeted all guest nobly, his arms were beeing held by Mom. Eventually the audience were excited up with applause, finally even fire works,,,,!!!

It’s only 13 years-old kids, you know…?

While I was taken a back by them with goose pimple, people moved to the indoor party space quickly,,,,, then the party was continued until late night..

Now I remember that I had watched a movie of which theme was about bar mitzvah, on the air plane before. To celebrate a 13 years-old boy who grown adult, it is great Jewish custom. But this crazy showy fancy party,,, it must be hard to understand, and looks completely funny from outsiders.
